#BalanceforBetter

7 March 2019

Happy International Women’s Day from the impacting women of the

Impact Academy. #BalanceforBetter

These are our impacting women. They are mums, some grand mums, they are sisters, they are daughters, they are leaders, they are wives, they are partners, they’re all Australian, all Impact Academy Alumni and they are change makers enterprising solutions to some of our greatest social challenges.

As at today, 53.7% of our Impact Academy alumni are women or women co-founders which has grown significantly since the company started in 2014.  It’s not an alarming stat, nor should it be but it’s a nice moment to reflect and acknowledge the women of Impact Academy providing an equal contribution to solving social problems as their gender counterparts. Today we celebrate them all but would like to shine a light on four women specifically providing education, empowerment, and support for equality for women.  They are driving forces behind #Balance for Better.

Mammojo Co-founder, Melita Shirley

Melita is a busy mum of three active boys.  She and her co founding husband Jonny created Mammojo Lactivewear – a range of maternity and nursing activewear created to remove barriers and empower mothers with the design and supply of high quality, stylish, maternity and breastfeeding friendly activewear.  For every order placed, Mammojo provide a birth kit to the world’s most vulnerable women so they might also have a clean and safe birth through a partnership with Birthing Kit Foundation.

Ecopads Founder, Freeda Thong

Ecopads Australia is a social enterprise founded by Freeda in 2016 to provide cloth pads for women in need and stand for women’s health, choice and pride. The cloth pads are made with love and hold true to the company’s core values; to protect the environment, provide education on menstruation, challenge the cultural stigmas and empower women on a global scale.

It is in the pressing issue of period shaming, which culturally and contextually shames women for being on their menstrual cycles, that we feel a strong passion for making a change…and Freeda is.
